I attended Washington State University my freshman year of college, but was not sure what I wanted to study. Because of this, I decided to attend Edmonds Community College where I randomly took at a journalism class. I immediately loved it and decided to write for a few publications. I became involved in the school newspaper, The Triton Review, and the school magazine, Between the Lines. After these experiences, I knew I wanted to be involved in journalism.
As of June, I have earned a public relations bachelor’s degree at Western Washington University. There, I was involved in several public relations courses along with school publications such as The Western Front and Klipsun Magazine. For the 2013 spring quarter, I was the public relations intern for United Way of Whatcom County where I was able to gain some experience and knowledge in my area of study.
Public relations was appealing to me because I could utilize my writing skills while also becoming involved with the public. I enjoy the fact that public relations has the power to reach millions of people for very little money, generating many valuable sales leads. I am excited to pursue this career and see where it leads me.
